Activity Overview
The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) recently updated its Clinician's Guide to Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis, which provides recommendations on diagnostic criteria and risk factors for osteoporosis. Implementation of the guidelines was the focus of Implementing the NOF Guidelines in Everyday Practice, the first in this three-part series. This publication employs a case-based approach to illustrate specific considerations for pharmacologic management of patients with osteoporosis
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians and other health care professionals in endocrinology, rheumatology, obstetrics/ gynecology, and primary care who manage patients who have or are at risk for osteoporosis.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify considerations for patient management such as who to treat, duration of therapy, and combination therapy
- Assess the risk/benefit ratio of currently available treatment options for osteoporosis
- Develop an appropriate treatment plan for a range of patients who are at increased risk for osteoporosis
