Felicia Cosman received a medical degree from Stony Brook Medical School in Stony Brook, New York. She completed an internal medicine internship and residency, and an endocrinology fellowship, at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Dr. Cosman has been on staff at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons since 1988.

Board certified in endocrinology and metabolism, Dr. Cosman is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and she is the Clinical Director of the National Osteoporosis Foundation. At Helen Hayes Hospital, Dr. Cosman serves on the Internal Medicine Committee and the Research Committee. Dr. Cosman has received many honors, including listing on America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals (2001–2007) and the Castle Connolly Medical Ltd's Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area (2001–2007).

Dr. Cosman is well published in the peer-reviewed literature and she holds editorial positions with several journals, including Journal of Bone Metabolism Research, Bone Mineral Research, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Osteoporosis International. Additionally, Dr. Cosman has written several book chapters on topics relating to osteoporosis and women's health. She co-edited Osteoporosis: An Evidence-Based Approach to the Prevention of Fractures (2002) and authored What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Osteoporosis (2003). Dr. Cosman's research focuses on the use of parathyroid hormone in the treatment of osteoporosis, and she has been co-investigator and principal investigator for several funded studies.
