Michael J. Maricic completed a medical degree at the University of Zagreb in Croatia. His postdoctoral training included residency (including as Chief Medical Resident) in internal medicine at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey and a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Arizona. At the University of Arizona, Dr. Maricic has served as Head of the Section of Rheumatology and as Program Director for both the Internal Medicine Residency and the Rheumatology Fellowship Programs.
A Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (with a subspecialty in rheumatology), Dr. Maricic is a member of several professional societies, including the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, and the Paget's Disease Foundation. At the University of Arizona he has served as Chair of both the Curriculum Committee and the Graduate Medical Education Advisory Committee. Dr. Maricic's awards include the University of Arizona College of Medicine's Dean's Teaching Award for Excellence, the Virginia Furrow Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education, and the Association of Rheumatology Health Professions President's Award. Additionally, he received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Arizona Internal Medicine Housestaff in both 2003 and 2004.
Dr. Maricic has authored over 35 peer-reviewed articles and numerous book chapters on osteoporosis and rheumatology. He co-edited Decision Making in Internal Medicine and Bone Disease in Rheumatology. Dr. Maricic is an active researcher, and he has served as principal site investigator on several funded trials.
